Police disown fake statement on training of 50,000 recruits

The Nigeria Police Force has disavowed a fabricated press release that falsely claimed Inspector-General Olatunji Disu had ordered the training of 50,000 newly recruited police constables. Despite bearing the Force's letterhead and the name of the Public Relations Officer, the statement was neither authorized nor issued by any department of the police.

The document, circulating on social media, falsely stated that the IGP had directed the Deputy Inspector-General in charge of Training and Development to prepare for the training, emphasizing discipline, professionalism, integrity, human rights, and effective policing. It also falsely alleged that successful candidates should check an official recruitment portal from September 14, 2026, for training details and resumption dates.

The statement even falsely quoted the IGP expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for his support in fighting insecurity. The Nigeria Police Force has categorically denied the existence of the statement, urging the public to rely only on official police channels for recruitment information. They have also launched a search for the individuals behind the fabricated statement, warning of legal repercussions for those found responsible.
