Point Break TV Show Gets the Green Light at AMC

AMC has granted its Point Break TV series the green light. A sequel spin-off based on the iconic 1991 film directed by Kathryn Bigelow, starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, has officially received a series order from both AMC and AMC+. AMC Studios and StudioCanal will collaborate on the production, with the first eight-episode season set to begin in early 2027.

Nearly three decades after the events of the original movie, a new heist crew inspired by former presidents has emerged, and the FBI must trust a mysterious ex-pro surfer with a questionable background to infiltrate them. Butterfly producer Dave Kalstein and Sugar producer Christopher C. Rogers will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, alongside Alcon's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Ben Roberts and Julia Cohen are also involved in the project. Set 30 years after the original film, the series' plot details, including the cast, remain undisclosed. Point Break is a quintessential 90s movie, originally released in July 1991. While a Point Break remake starring Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez came out in 2015, it received mixed reviews, with IGN giving it a 5/10 rating.

However, a previous review of the 2015 adaptation received a more favorable rating of 8/10, praising its fun nature and comprehensive storytelling.
