PM Shehbaz orders two-hour limit on power cuts in country’s any area

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a meeting in Islamabad on Friday to address increasing electricity load shedding across various regions of the country. The prime minister was informed that power generation had dropped due to a shortage of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) and transmission issues stemming from regional tensions, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.

This shortfall necessitated load management to balance supply and demand. In response, Shehbaz directed authorities to limit power cuts to no more than two hours in any area. He also established Consumer Grievance Redressal Committees within power distribution companies, to be fully operational within a week, and instructed that public complaints be addressed through the 118 helpline.

Officials reported that, except for six consumers in Rajanpur district, power supply had not been impacted by recent monsoon rains. The meeting included key officials such as Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, and other ministers and advisers.
