Personal data believed stolen in cyberattack at pharma company

Pharmaceutical company Duopharma Biotech Bhd suffered a cyberattack, according to preliminary investigations. The attack led to the removal of certain data files, potentially including personal information. Duopharma Biotech Bhd, which operates a factory in Klang, Malaysia, reported that its internal cyber defense systems detected unauthorized system access attempts.

The company stated that there was no disruption to their core business operations, as all corporate activities continued to function normally. Immediate containment protocols were successfully executed, and the core corporate network and internal operational systems remained intact and secure. Duopharma Biotech Bhd plans to collaborate with cybersecurity experts to conduct a digital forensic investigation and determine the extent of the affected files.

The company believes there are no financial implications from the attack, but it will continue to assess the impact as more information becomes available. In regards to the suspected theft of personal data, the company will notify the personal data protection commissioner within the required timeframe. Duopharma Biotech Bhd manufactures and markets over 300 generic drugs, including widely-used over-the-counter products like vitamin supplements and painkillers. The company's share price closed at RM1.22 on the stock exchange today.
