Pandangan wanita tak boleh jadi presiden parti, PM bersifat stereotaip, kata Saifuddin

Former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Vision of Malaysia Party Saifuddin Abdullah has criticized the stereotypical view that women cannot become the party president or prime minister. In an article published by Sinar Harian's "Merentas Ruang," Saifuddin highlights that such opinions are based on misconceptions and assumptions rather than facts or knowledge.

He cites examples from the Islamic religion that demonstrate the significant role women have played in leadership and society. For instance, the Quran highlights the wisdom and leadership of Queen Balqis (An-Naml: 23-44), while the wives of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) such as Khadijah, the patroness, and Aisyah, the herald of his teachings, also played crucial roles.

Saifuddin argues that to optimize the roles of women and youth in politics, it is essential to prioritize knowledge, skills, and experience, including determining who is suitable for a specific position. He emphasizes that selection and appointment to certain roles should be based on merit rather than familial ties. Saifuddin calls for an end to nepotism in politics, such as placing one's spouse or children in positions like party president.

To build a new and mature democracy, he asserts that it is crucial to prioritize knowledge, skills, and experience.
