Otti’s wife unveils N20m support for 400 women with disabilities

Priscilla Otti, the wife of Abia State Governor, unveiled an N20 million support initiative for 400 women living with disabilities in Umuahia, the state capital. The support, presented during an outreach organised by Otti, aimed to address various challenges such as unemployment, financial insecurity, medical expenses, limited mobility, poor accessibility, stigma, and social exclusion.

Otti, founder of the Safe Tent Care Initiative, emphasised that the intervention was a step towards providing practical support to those facing economic hardship, promising similar frequent interventions in the future. The initiative also included vocational training for 200 women through a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Directorate of Employment, with a portion reserved for women with disabilities.

Otti highlighted the importance of moving from relief to resilience and economic independence, while the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Blessing Felix, assured that the state government valued the voices of persons with disabilities and would actively involve them in government.
