One dead, several injured as tipper truck crashes into vehicles, shops in Kumasi

A tragic accident in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, resulted in the death of one person and injuries to several others on Thursday afternoon. The collision involved a tipper truck and multiple vehicles, including motorbikes, tricycles, and shops along the Krofrom-Tafo-Nhyiaeso route.

The deceased, an unidentified male, was riding a Pragya tricycle at the time of the crash. Police spokesman ASP Paul Ayaaba Asore stated that the tipper truck, driven by Clement Ofori, lost control when the brakes failed at the Krofrom traffic intersection. Ofori claimed he was en route to Burkina Faso when the incident occurred.

At least seven vehicles and motorbikes were struck by the tipper truck, causing significant damage, including destruction of construction materials in nearby shops. Several victims were transported to local hospitals, while a man trapped in another tricycle was rescued by the Ghana National Fire Service and National Ambulance Service before being taken to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The Tafo-Pakrono Divisional MTTD Commander confirmed that emergency services were working to clear the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, given the steep and busy nature of the road. Those whose vehicles were removed from the area have been advised to report to the police for assistance with the investigation, while the tipper truck driver remains in custody.
