No cap on talent arrivals: Chris Sun

Hong Kong's Labour and Welfare Secretary Chris Sun has stated there are no plans to limit the number of individuals granted entry through talent admission schemes. Sun emphasized that people with talent are welcome to reside in Hong Kong as long as they contribute to the city's economic growth. Sun categorized Hong Kong's talent schemes into two primary groups: work-related and talent-specific.

The former involves individuals with a job waiting to be filled, while the latter targets those who either earn substantial incomes or have graduated from prestigious universities worldwide. Sun further clarified that the expansion of talent schemes is advantageous for both the economy and the community. This statement follows Eric Fong, the director of the University of Hong Kong's Research Hub of Population Studies, who had previously suggested the possibility of setting a cap on immigration based on societal capacity.

Fong also proposed conducting regular industry assessments to address talent shortages more effectively. According to official statistics, approximately 530,000 individuals, along with their dependents, have migrated to Hong Kong under various talent schemes over the past three and a half years, as of June.
