Nico Paz explains why he didn’t return to Real Madrid

Nico Paz, the attacking midfielder, revealed his decision not to return to Real Madrid to join AC Como. In the summer, Real Madrid had the option to re-sign Paz, but ultimately, he chose to stay at Como. The Bernabeu club activated the €9m buy-back clause they had from the original deal two years ago, but Como ultimately paid a hefty €60m to secure his services.

Since joining Como in 2024, Paz has been exceptional, contributing 37 goals in 79 appearances, which is a remarkable record for someone who had little senior football experience before moving to Italy. Real Madrid's interest in bringing him back was evident after Paz's impressive performance for Como in a Champions League match against RB Leipzig.

However, Paz decided to stay in Italy, stating he believed this was where he could grow the most. He expressed his satisfaction with his decision to remain at Como. Real Madrid holds another buy-back clause worth €80m and are considering activating it if Paz continues to perform well. However, Paz has reservations about returning due to concerns about limited playing time at Real Madrid.

He fears that competition from players like Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, and Bernardo Silva could restrict his opportunities. Paz's concerns may persist if and when Real Madrid decides to activate their buy-back clause at the end of the season.
