New accessible playground opens in Saskatoon

A new accessible playground has opened in Saskatoon, fulfilling a long-awaited dream for Makenna Hiebert and her family. The ribbon cutting ceremony took place on September 10, officially marking the opening of the playground at St. Anne Catholic School. Makenna, who experienced a brain injury at the age of three, has been eagerly anticipating the completion of this much-needed space.

Her mother, Brittany Hiebert, expressed her excitement about the playground, stating that it has already become a gathering place for families with children who require accessibility. The new playground features ramps and a rubber surface to facilitate independent play. Brittany believes that this playground sets a standard for accessible play spaces throughout the city, emphasizing the importance of creating a culture where play is accessible for all.
