NDC Taraba crisis deepens as legal adviser rejects chairman’s removal

The crisis within the Taraba State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified following the legal adviser's rejection of the chairman's removal. K.M. Chiroma, the Legal Adviser, declared the vote of no confidence against state party chairman Amb. Charles Tiuda and the subsequent appointment of Richard Dauda Achiarege as interim chairman as unconstitutional and null and void.

Chiroma argued that the actions taken by the State Executive/Working Committee did not adhere to the party's constitution, particularly Articles 18 and 20 which govern disciplinary procedures and sanctions. He emphasized that the NDC constitution is supreme and that any action inconsistent with its provisions is invalid. Chiroma urged party members to uphold the status quo, maintain internal democracy, and resolve disputes through the established constitutional mechanisms.

He cautioned against actions that could deepen divisions within the party and cautioned Achiarege to cease referring to himself as the interim chairman. The legal adviser stressed the importance of unity and adherence to the party's constitution, warning that sacrificing constitutionalism for expediency could jeopardize the integrity of all offices and institutions in the future.
