Navi Mumbai: NMMC Standing Committee Rejects Vashi Sports Complex Proposal Over Fund Allocation Dispute

Navi Mumbai's NMMC Standing Committee has dismissed a proposal for a sports complex in Vashi Sector 10A, amid a dispute over fund allocation. House Leader Sagar Naik objected, citing unequal funding and insufficient sports infrastructure in other regions like Airoli, Ghansoli, Koparkhairane and Rabale. The proposal, which would have included a hockey field, tennis courts, running track and parking, was rejected by a majority vote.

This decision is perceived as a blow to the BJP, which holds a majority on the committee. Naik questioned the rationale for allocating funds to an area already equipped with sports facilities, while others suffer from a lack thereof. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive assessment of sports infrastructure before any spending decisions are made.

The Shiv Sena, represented in the ward, voiced its opposition, urging the committee to keep the proposal pending and revise it to address sports infrastructure needs across all divisions.
