MoPH launches overseas food handler examination service

Doha, Qatar - The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has introduced a convenient option for candidates to take the Food Handler Licensing Examination abroad, at recognized testing centers in multiple nations. This new service allows food establishments to evaluate potential employees' skills and eligibility for food sector jobs more efficiently, ultimately reducing the time and resources spent on recruitment.

The examination is available in both Arabic and English, and upon completion, candidates receive comprehensive performance reports. These reports enable employers to identify strengths and areas for improvement, determine necessary training, enhance workforce competence, and promote sound food safety practices.

Should a candidate successfully pass the examination outside Qatar, food establishments can proceed with the necessary steps to obtain a professional practice license, eliminating the need for the individual to retake the test in Qatar. While the option to take the exam abroad is currently voluntary, the Ministry aims to make it mandatory for future recruitment processes. The implementation date and required procedures will be disclosed once all necessary arrangements are finalized.

The new service complements the existing Food Handler Licensing Programme, which has been in operation in Qatar since 2021 and has licensed 10,630 food handlers nationwide. The Ministry highlighted that these initiatives are part of their ongoing commitment to elevate workforce competence in the food sector, facilitate recruitment of qualified personnel for food establishments, and bolster compliance with food safety standards and practices.
