MoFFA gives Battor Mortuary 14 days to account for missing body

The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has granted the management of Battor Catholic Hospital Mortuary Annex in Anyamam a 14-day deadline to provide an account for the whereabouts of Georgina Tsiakie Agbasi, a 53-year-old woman whose body went missing from the facility. The assessment and investigation were conducted by MoFFA following the reported disappearance.

Dr. Phillip Sarpong, Deputy Registrar of MoFFA, revealed during a conversation with the Ghana News Agency that preliminary investigations had uncovered deficiencies in certain processes at the mortuary. The agency has been collaborating with the facility management to determine the fate of the missing body, and they are confident it will be located.

Despite the family's presence during the agency's visit, they claim they were not directly contacted by MoFFA. The agency's representatives only informed the family about the 14-day ultimatum through journalists. Reverend Ebenezer Ogbe, a family head, expressed concern over the emotional distress endured by the family, particularly the deceased's husband, who has struggled to eat or drink since the body was reported missing.

The family is awaiting the outcome of MoFFA's efforts to locate the remains and is uncertain about the next steps, such as proceeding with the burial, depending on the condition of the body when found.
