Middle East live: Trump says he has no regrets about launching Iran war

In an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, President Donald Trump expressed no regret over the war against Iran, dismissing the possibility that it may impact the upcoming U.S. midterm elections. When asked about his decision, Trump stated, "I don't believe in the word regret," but acknowledged that he would have taken the same course of action again, saying, "If I had it to do again, I would do exactly as I did."

Trump dismissed concerns that some of his supporters were demoralized by the war, insisting, "They're very proud of the fact that I'm not letting Iran have a nuclear weapon." He reiterated his belief that the conflict would conclude shortly after the midterm elections, stating, "It ends right after the election."

The president further alleged that Iran was attempting to influence the elections, which could affect whether his Republican Party maintains control of Congress. The recent U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and its allies have resulted in thousands of casualties and the displacement of millions.

Trump's stated objective in the war is to weaken Iran's nuclear capabilities, despite the fact that Iran has not developed nuclear weapons and claims its uranium enrichment program is for peaceful purposes. The U.S. possesses its own nuclear arsenal.
