Leafs winger Max Domi to miss the start of camp

Max Domi, the winger for the Toronto Maple Leafs, will not participate in the club's upcoming training camp due to complications arising from off-season surgery. The 31-year-old player will undergo further evaluation when the team officially reconvenes. John Chayka, the general manager, stated that Domi remains "out indefinitely" following his injury, though he would address the situation publicly "at the right time in the near future."

Domi's contract runs for four years with a salary of US$15 million. The Maple Leafs announced May 25 that an issue had arisen following Domi's surgery to address a lingering injury that affected him during the 2025-26 season. The team did not disclose the nature of the injury or the surgery. The veteran forward's performance has been disappointing, as he scored only 36 points (12 goals, 24 assists) in 80 games during the season.

Chayka provided positive news regarding defenseman Chris Tanev, stating that the 36-year-old looks "great" after playing in just 11 games last season due to various health issues. Chayka mentioned that the team will clear Tanev for play once he completes his medical, expecting him to return soon.
