OpenAI, the leading artificial intelligence company, is reportedly considering slowing down the development of its cutting-edge AI systems. During a recent company-wide meeting, CEO Sam Altman suggested that the pace of AI development might need to be reduced, possibly in collaboration with other AI laboratories. However, other companies may be reluctant to follow suit, according to a report by Bloomberg News, citing anonymous sources.

OpenAI has not commented on the report. In recent weeks, employees of leading AI companies have publicly warned about the increasing risks associated with advanced AI systems. This debate comes at a time when OpenAI and its competitor Anthropic are preparing for their respective IPOs, creating uncertainty in the market. Industry warnings OpenAI's chief scientist, Jakub Pachocki, recently warned in a blog post about the dangers of artificial intelligence, stating that AI companies should "coordinate as needed to slow down future development."

He added that he hopes "voluntary slowdowns will become common until common safety standards are established." OpenAI has reported that it has slowed down certain aspects of model development and temporarily paused internal AI training for safety reasons. In July, Altman also mentioned having discussions with White House representatives regarding the "necessity" of slowing down AI development.
