KP higher education dept introduces e-attendance system in colleges

PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department has introduced an e-attendance system in degree colleges across the province, allowing parents to track their children's attendance via SMS alerts from home. The system was inaugurated by Provincial Minister for Higher Education and Local Government Meena Khan Afridi at an event held at Government Degree College in Peshawar.

Zong Telecom, the Secretary of Higher Education, the Director of Higher Education, teachers, and students were present at the inauguration. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Higher Education Department and Zong Telecom to support the digital attendance system. Afridi stated that the system would regularly provide parents with SMS updates about their children's attendance, including information on any classes the student missed.

The department has been actively pursuing digital transformation in various areas to modernize higher education, having already implemented an e-transfer system and ranked universities in the province. Additionally, a hard-area allowance is being introduced to incentivize teachers working in remote and challenging areas, providing extra support to those posted in such locations.

Afridi also announced the construction of a modern hall at Government Degree College Peshawar to offer students advanced educational facilities.
