Korean Air, Asiana to offer free in-flight Wi-Fi services

Korean Air and Asiana Airlines are set to provide complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi utilizing SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service. This marks the first time East Asian full-service carriers will adopt this system. Korean Air announced on Friday that they will begin offering the service on Tuesday from four retrofitted aircraft - three Airbus A350-900s and one Boeing 777-300ER.

These planes will initially be used on long-haul routes to the Americas, Europe, and Southeast Asia, with some also serving short-haul routes. Korean Air intends to extend the service to most of their fleet by the end of 2027, available in all seating classes. Asiana Airlines, which is scheduled to merge with Korean Air, will also offer the Starlink-based in-flight Wi-Fi on select flights.

The service will initially be accessible on nine A350-900s and one A330-300 that completed the installation of the communication equipment this month; the remaining aircraft will follow gradually. For passengers to access the service, they need to place their devices in airplane mode and connect to the in-flight network. They will then need to input their passenger name and surname.
