Kenyasi JHS gets $600,000 facelift after years of unsafe conditions

For years, Kenyasi No. 1 Anglican Junior High School in Asutifi North District faced dangerous conditions due to crumbling infrastructure. Weak roofs, cracked walls, broken windows, and potholes made learning unsafe, causing teachers to focus on survival more than education. Headteacher Opoku Agyemang described the situation as one of constant anxiety, which had negatively impacted student performance.

Fortunately, the situation is improving with a $600,000 investment by the Underground Mining Alliance (UMA) through its CSR program. At the official opening on September 9, 2026, Agyemang thanked UMA for their timely support, emphasizing that the school can now provide a safe and comfortable environment for all. This project supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 9, aiming to improve quality education and infrastructure.

Asutifi North District Director Naomi Asantewaa praised UMA's role in addressing the district's educational needs, noting that their intervention eases financial burdens on the district assembly. She called for community members to maintain the facility and assured that the district will monitor the school's academic progress. The renovated classroom is part of a series of UMA-Subika-led initiatives in the area, including scholarships, apprenticeships, and community events.
