Kamathipura Redevelopment To Move Ahead With Resident Participation, MHADA Promises Transparency And Dialogue

Mumbai: The redevelopment of the historic Kamathipura locality will proceed with the involvement and consultation of residents, tenants, and landowners, according to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). Mahendra Jaiswal, Vice President and CEO of MHADA, emphasized that residents' suggestions and concerns will significantly influence the final redevelopment plan, stating that the process will be guided by the principles of citizen participation, transparency, and open dialogue.

During a presentation of the Kamathipura Cluster Redevelopment Project and a public interaction program at Akhil Padmashali Samaj Hall on Friday, Jaiswal highlighted that the proposed redevelopment covers approximately 34 acres, encompassing around 475 cess-paved and 259 non-cess-paved buildings. Over 8,000 residents and tenants, comprising about 6,625 residential and 1,376 commercial tenants, along with nearly 800 landowners, are connected to the project.

The plan also includes the addition of approximately 4,500 new residential units. MHADA, serving as the nodal agency and Special Planning Authority for the project, is executing the redevelopment in accordance with Regulation 33(9) of the Delhi Capitals Property Regulation 2034. In response to resident demands, MHADA has approved several measures, including two years' advance rent followed by cheques for the subsequent year, a Rs 25,000 moving allowance, and enhanced monthly rent for non-residential occupants.
