Kalyan Police Invoke MCOCA Against Drug Network, 5 Held With Heroin Worth ₹34.18 Crore

On September 10, 2026, the Kalyan police cracked down on a major drug trafficking operation and apprehended five individuals involved in the illicit heroin trade. The seized heroin, valued at Rs 34.18 crore in the international market, weighed a staggering 9.768 kg. Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende disclosed that the largest cache, 9.236 kg, was recovered from Kasim Abdul Sattar Vasaikar (38) and Krishna Nagappa Halmani (36).

The five arrested individuals are Qasim Abdul Sattar Vasaikar (38), Krishna Nagappa Halmani (36), Ganesh Puthuswamy (71), Saddam Gafur Shaikh (32), and Ajmad Yusuf Pathan (47). In addition to the drugs, the police seized Rs 29,000 in cash and a mobile phone. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashok Honmane revealed that Ajmad Yusuf Pathan is the alleged mastermind behind the network, with over 20 serious criminal cases registered against him in various states, including murder, robbery, assault, and drug trafficking.

Another accused, Saddam Gafur Shaikh, has eight criminal cases against him. The Kalyan police invoked provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused after determining they operated as an organized criminal syndicate. Three of the accused were brought before the Special MCOCA Court and remanded to police custody until September 17.

The investigation is ongoing to uncover the wider network and potential connections of the accused with other members of the organized drug trafficking syndicate.
