Jakim panel to review storylines of ‘Madu’ and ‘Cela’ drama series

The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) has announced that the drama series "Madu atau Racun" and "Cela" will undergo a review by a panel from the Islamic development department (Jakim). This review will focus on the overall storylines and content context of the two series. The decision comes after the religious affairs department complained about the series, leading streaming platform iQIYI to remove the aired episodes and postpone the remaining ones for editing and reassessment.

Finas will also engage with the film and television industry to establish procedures and guidelines for content production. Additionally, additional conditions will be introduced for the film authentication certificate to ensure all productions adhere to the guidelines and do not harm societal interests. Finas emphasizes that this measure is not aimed at restricting creative freedom, but rather at promoting responsible creativity that considers religious sensitivities, cultural values, societal interests, and the country's legal framework.
