ISU/MVFC NOTEBOOK: Sycamores look to get another win against EIU

Indiana State University's football team will host Eastern Illinois University in Game 3 of the season on Saturday at O'Brien Field in Charleston, Illinois, with kickoff at 7 p.m. EDT. The Sycamores and Panthers previously faced each other in September 2025, when ISU emerged victorious with a 38-14 win. A win for ISU this Saturday would mark the Sycamores' second consecutive victory over the Panthers, following a close 27-20 defeat in 2024.

Eastern Illinois is coming off a devastating 59-7 loss to Minnesota last week after defeating Murray State 28-14. The Panthers showcased some impressive plays during their narrow loss to Minnesota, including crucial performances in critical moments and a couple of punt returns that may have impacted the game. Indiana State is returning from a 44-19 loss to Purdue, where they opted to start backup quarterback Brady Allen for the fourth quarter.

Allen's performance has caught the attention of Eastern Illinois Coach Chris Wilkerson, who has prepared his team to account for both quarterbacks. Both ISU and EIU possess standout players; EIU's Elijah Owens is a versatile athlete capable of making every play on the field and extending drives with his feet, while ISU's Dane Pardridge and Jayden Reed are prolific receivers.

EIU's defense, led by Nic Yatsko with 21 tackles and a pass breakup, and their running back, Samuel Gonzalez with three catches for 50 yards, will be critical factors in the matchup.
