IRCTC records highest 1-day booking of over 2mn tickets ahead of festive season

Maruti Suzuki India is set to face a significant supply crunch as the festive season approaches, with nearly 1.8 lakh pending bookings and a limited inventory of just 15-16 days across its dealer network, according to Moneycontrol. In a recent interview, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki India, revealed that the company expects sufficient supplies starting from January 2027.

However, Banerjee emphasized that having 30 days of network stock would have allowed the company to perform optimally during the festive season, stating, "We are short of vehicles for the festive season."

Despite the current supply constraints, Maruti Suzuki India witnessed a surge in demand for its vehicles ahead of the festive season. The company gained market share in the country’s largest carmaker segment, with domestic passenger vehicle wholesale sales increasing by 35.77% year-on-year to 7,21,431 units for the April-July FY27, compared to 5,31,348 units in the same period last year.

The overall passenger vehicle industry grew by 28.02% during this period, leading to an improvement in Maruti Suzuki's domestic market share from 39.28% to 41.66%.

To meet the demand surge and outperform industry growth in FY27, Maruti Suzuki India is investing heavily in expanding its production capacity. The company's annual production capacity has increased to 29 lakh units following the commissioning of its fourth plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat, and the second facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana.

Additionally, Maruti Suzuki plans to increase its FY27 capital expenditure by 40% to ₹14,000 crore, with an aim to reach ₹77,500 crore by FY31. This investment is geared towards expanding annual production capacity to 40 lakh vehicles, as per Banerjee's statement.
