Iranian Strikes In Jordan Damage Several US Aircraft: Report

A large smoke plume was reported over the desert southeast of Medina in Saudi Arabia, along the route of the East-West oil pipeline, according to satellite imagery. Thermal anomalies were also detected by NASA's FIRMS system, but the source of the fire remains unclear. This comes amid escalating tensions between Iran-aligned Houthi forces and Saudi Arabia.

On September 8, Houthi forces launched a wave of missile and drone attacks against southern Saudi Arabia, with strikes reported in Jazan, Abha, Najran, and Khamis Mushait. Saudi Arabia retaliated with strikes in Yemen.

Near Oman's Khasab, four unidentified projectiles struck two vessels, setting one ablaze. The UK Maritime Trade Operations reported the attacks occurred about 4 nautical miles west of Khasab, with one vessel catching fire. Two US military aircraft were damaged at Jordan's Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, with an A-10 attack aircraft losing a wing and eight F-15 fighter jets sustaining light damage.

No US personnel deaths were reported. The attacks followed the US military's strike and disabling of five Iranian oil tankers in retaliation for attempted attacks on a US Navy warship.

The seizure of Yemen's Red Sea port of Mokha by Iran-backed Houthi group has increased concerns about shipping through the Bab Al Mandeb Strait, which handles about 10% of global oil supplies. Brent crude prices rose to $107.6/barrel as a result of the Houthi seizure of Mokha, while WTI gained 1.48% to $104/barrel. Saudi Arabia has activated early warning systems in the Asir region, including Abha and Khamis Mushait, to warn residents of potential threats and enable necessary safety precautions.
