The most significant update in iOS 27 is the redesigned Siri, now marketed as "Siri AI." Apple claims the assistant will respond more naturally to conversation, incorporate personal context from emails, messages, and calendars, and perform actions directly in apps like Messages, Music, or Reminders. Apple collaborated with Google to develop Siri AI.

However, in the EU, including Germany, Siri AI will not be available at launch due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Siri AI will be available on Mac and Apple Vision Pro with English support initially.

Other notable features in iOS 27 include advanced photo editing, such as post-capture correction, AI-driven image expansion, and the "Clean Up" tool to remove unwanted objects. Image Playground can generate and edit images based on text descriptions, offering photorealistic results on supported hardware. Apple has also improved typing tools and utilizes new powerful models hosted on Apple's private cloud compute servers for image generation, subject to daily usage limits that vary by iCloud plan.

Safari will automatically group open tabs by topic, allowing users to monitor web pages for price or availability changes and receive notifications. The Passcode app will detect weak or compromised login credentials and automatically update them. The design of iPhones will see improvements to the "Liquid-Glass" finish, enabling users to adjust the transparency and contrast of surfaces using a slider, with icons appearing sharper.

App loading times will be faster, with up to 30% quicker app launches, 70% faster app imports into the photo library, and 80% faster AirDrop transfers. A new "iPhone Handoff" feature will enable switching between iPhones using the same number. Apple Gift Cards will soon be redeemable by simply tapping the back of the iPhone.
