Houthis advance along Yemeni coast, threaten Saudi oil exports in Red Sea

Military sources report that Iran-backed Houthi rebels have taken control of Yemen's port city of Mocha and advanced along the Red Sea coast toward vital islands. This comes just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope that the Iran conflict would end following the upcoming midterm elections. Yemeni government forces have been moving southward along the Red Sea to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical shipping route, in an effort to secure control over it and the nearby islands of Hanish.

If the Houthi rebels gain complete control of the waterway, it could significantly impact global oil supplies and result in rising oil prices. Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, has long relied on the Red Sea route, which has effectively replaced the previously crucial Hormuz Strait due to the ongoing conflict. Yemeni military sources emphasize the importance of controlling Dhubab and the islands for securing the strait.

The United Nations special envoy for Yemen has called for urgent action to address the escalating violence and the potential threat to freedom of navigation in these vital shipping lanes.
