Donald Trump landed in Ireland on Saturday, accompanied by a high security operation, for a two-day trip that included diplomacy and golf. At least 4,000 police and other personnel, including snipers, have been mobilized for the visit, which has been described as one of the largest security operations ever in Ireland. Upon landing, Trump briefly spoke to reporters on the tarmac, stating that there would be "a lot of meetings with European leaders and others," and that it would be an "interesting time."

Protesters are planning to rally in Dublin during Trump's visit, where he will hold separate meetings with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin and President Catherine Connolly. Trump is expected to fly to his luxury resort in Doonbeg, located on Ireland's west coast, to play golf in the Irish Open tournament. Some of the world's top golfers are participating in the event.

Trump, who has a passion for golf, has promoted his family's golf business while in office. He has previously hosted foreign leaders at his golf resorts in Scotland and Scotland. The security operation for Trump's visit is reportedly costing Ireland 20 million euros ($23 million) and comes as the country is already facing a massive policing operation for its six-month EU presidency.

While Ireland and the US have long been close allies, their political views often diverge, especially on issues such as support for the Palestinians. Irish President Connolly, a left-winger and outspoken critic of Trump, will be meeting with Martin, with whom he has a cordial relationship. The meeting is expected to be short and courteous.
