GU-Q Invites High Schools to Participate in Innovative Career Decision Programme

High school students in Qatar will soon have the unique opportunity to engage in real-world job tasks as part of an innovative career decision program, according to a report by Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q). The initiative, funded by the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council, aims to understand how young people make career and study decisions.

GU-Q, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, will run interactive online workshops in high schools across the country. Over 1,500 high schoolers will participate, role-playing real-world market tasks drawn from a database of more than 17,000 job postings. The workshops correspond to six broad college major categories, including STEM, health and medicine, education, business and economics, arts and humanities, and social sciences.

Each workshop focuses on a specific career category, with students performing tasks such as data analysis, patient communication, and lesson design. After completing the tasks, students will take a post-workshop survey and receive a detailed report of their individual findings. Participating schools will have free access to the six-workshop platform after the study concludes and will receive an anonymized cohort insight report on their students' preferences and performance.
