Gachagua storms Portland, reveals top agenda as US diaspora tour enters new phase

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has journeyed to Portland, Oregon, as part of his ongoing engagement with Kenyans residing in the United States in preparation for the 2027 General Election. On September 10, 2026, Gachagua announced his arrival via his official X account, expressing his intent to hold further discussions with Kenyans in the US.

He stated, “I have arrived at Portland City Oregon State in the United States for continued discussions with Kenyans living here, and I hope the discussion will be fruitful.”

Gachagua's visit followed a series of engagements in Spokane, Washington, where he held conversations with Kenyans about the current state of Kenya and its future. Upon departing Spokane, Gachagua was greeted by friends who had become integral to his political journey. He described their farewell with warmth and camaraderie, sharing a dinner together and expressing gratitude for the shared experience.

During his engagements across various states in the US, Gachagua has revealed a consistent theme: deep frustration among Kenyans living abroad over the governance of their homeland. He noted, “As I continue to engage with Kenyans across various states in the USA, one thing is crystal clear: there is a deep sense of frustration with how our country is being governed, and many feel completely dissatisfied with the management of Kenya.”

Despite the prevailing dissatisfaction, Gachagua conveyed that Kenyan expatriates remain steadfast in their commitment to advocating for change. He emphasized, “Despite these challenges, their commitment remains resolute; they are determined to do everything possible to advocate for a new dispensation where their taxes are valued and Kenya’s resources are managed responsibly.”

Gachagua's Portland visit is part of a broader outreach effort to mobilize Kenyans living in the United States and build networks ahead of the upcoming 2027 elections.
