Fire breaks out at Pulau Burung landfill

A fire broke out at the Pulau Burung solid waste landfill site in Nibong Tebal last night, although no injuries were reported. Emergency services were alerted at 11:36 pm, prompting swift action from firefighting crews. The Penang fire and rescue department dispatched engines from the Nibong Tebal station to the scene. Specialized firefighting tactics, including creating a firebreak, were employed to prevent the blaze from spreading.

The fire, affecting a 120 by 90 foot area (approximately 1,003 square meters), was eventually contained at 12:30 am. However, overhaul operations continued into the early hours of the morning to ensure complete extinguishment. Firefighting efforts were divided into two sectors, with Sector A managed by the Sungai Bakap station and Sector B by the Nibong Tebal station.

As of the following morning, about 40% of the fire in Sector A remained unextinguished, while 50% still smoldered in Sector B. Assistance was also provided by teams from the Bandar Perda station and volunteer fire brigades from Valdor, Permatang Tinggi, and Nibong Tebal.
