FG to Give Students 100MB Data Daily from October 1

The Nigerian government announced plans to provide 100 megabytes (MB) of free daily data to over five million students starting October 1, 2026. This initiative, launched by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), is a collaboration between telecommunications operators and the Federal Ministry of Education under the auspices of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ALTON).

The initiative aims to eliminate barriers to digital education and ensure that all Nigerian students have access to approved educational websites and platforms, regardless of their ability to pay for data. The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, highlighted the importance of this initiative in preparing students for a digital economy and emphasized that the cost of internet data often prevents students from low-income households from accessing digital learning resources.

The NCC and the Federal Ministry of Education will jointly approve the educational platforms to be whitelisted for the initiative, ensuring compliance with relevant telecommunications laws and regulations.
