F1 Spanish GP at Madring: Saturday schedule, weather forecast and how to watch

Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is currently 80 percent ready to host the Formula One (F1) Bahrain Grand Prix next month, as facility upgrades continue to progress on schedule. Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari confirmed that repair and upgrading works, which began on Monday, are in line with requirements set by Formula One Management and the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA).

The Minister noted that 500 volunteers have been recruited to undergo training, ensuring they are fully prepared for their duties during the prestigious race. SIC has been closed to the public since the upgrades began, as facility improvements are underway. Dr Johari expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating that everything is on schedule and meeting the necessary standards.

The Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, informed that all relevant ministries and agencies have been instructed to expedite and facilitate any pending matters and approvals, aiming to ensure a smooth race preparation. Malaysia will welcome the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix at SIC from October 2 to 4, marking the country's return to the F1 calendar after a nine-year hiatus.

SIC previously hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix from 1999 to 2017 before the race was removed from the F1 calendar due to increasing hosting and licensing costs. The return of this high-profile event to Malaysia was facilitated by diplomatic efforts involving His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and King Hamad Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain. This return took place on September 11, 2026.
