Emir, NECO registrar seek support for traditional institutions

The Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouq Bahago, has called on corporate organizations to back traditional institutions, emphasizing their vital role in preserving peace, stability, and development within communities. This plea came during the inauguration of the Palace of Mai-Anguwan Gidan Mangoro, a project undertaken by the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the crowning of its Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, as the Maji Dadin Gidan Mangoro.

Bahago, accompanied by Salisu Garba, highlighted the harmonious relationship between NECO and the host communities, attributing it to their mutual goodwill. The Emir described the palace as a symbol of unity, cultural heritage, and the enduring role of traditional institutions in fostering social cohesion. He further stressed that while tradition matters, development needs to respect cultural foundations.

Prof. Wushishi, in his remarks, noted that NECO perceives corporate responsibility as extending beyond its primary functions of examinations, certification, and ensuring educational quality. He explained that as a council, NECO recognizes the necessity of stable, peaceful communities for robust education systems. Thus, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, NECO aims to contribute positively to the welfare of its host communities, uphold traditional values and leadership, and promote overall development.

Additionally, the council presented two transformers and motorized boreholes to the Gidan Mangoro and Gbaganako communities.
