Ekiti: Police launch probe as man allegedly kills wife during marital dispute

The Ekiti State Police have begun an investigation into the alleged murder of 25-year-old Kehinde Onizeokaraga by her husband, Sodiq Ibrahim, amid a marital dispute in Ado Ekiti, the state capital. Ekiti State Police Commissioner Michael Falade ordered the probe following Ibrahim's reported machete attack on his wife during an attempt to resolve their marital disagreement on Wednesday.

The couple, originating from Kogi State, had reportedly faced marital difficulties prior to the incident. Kehinde had reportedly left Ibrahim's residence due to irreconcilable differences, but recently, the suspect returned to attempt resolution, which allegedly turned violent. Ibrahim allegedly struck Kehinde multiple times with a machete, leading to her death.

He reportedly fled the scene and remains at large, while Kehinde's body was taken to a mortuary. Kehinde's cousin, Yussuf Lawrence, expressed deep sorrow and urged authorities to intensify efforts to apprehend the suspect, who allegedly stole Kehinde's mobile phone, potentially containing crucial information for the investigation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident and stated that the Commissioner had directed a thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrator is apprehended and brought to justice.
