Domestic Help Arrested For Allegedly Stealing ₹5 Lakh Diamond-Studded Gold Bangle From Actress Ameesha Patel’s Mother

Mumbai's Marine Drive Police have apprehended a 40-year-old domestic worker, Seema Vinod Ghate, for allegedly stealing a diamond-studded gold bangle valued at approximately ₹5 lakh from the property of actress Ameesha Patel's mother, Asha Patel. The accused, who had been employed by the Patels for around eighteen months, is currently in police custody, with the case expected to be resolved by September 15.

The bangle in question was allegedly taken from the Patels' residence in January 2026. Asha Patel had been suspicious of Ghate's potential involvement in the theft for the past five to six months and had repeatedly requested her to acknowledge the crime and return the valuable jewelry. When Ghate failed to comply, the aggrieved mother lodged a formal complaint with the Marine Drive Police.

Following the formal complaint, the police registered a first information report (FIR) under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to theft. The Crime Detection Team, under the direction of Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Kadam and Police Inspector Vhatkar, conducted a thorough investigation that ultimately led them to Ghate's residence in Virar. The accused was subsequently apprehended and presented before the court, where she has been remanded to police custody until September 15.

The investigating team, led by Assistant Police Inspector Pradeep Chaudhary, is currently working to recover the stolen bangle and is also looking into Ghate's criminal record, if any. At present, however, the recovered bangle remains undiscovered. The police are diligently gathering more information to unravel the full details of this intriguing case and ensure justice for the aggrieved party.
