Delhi traffic advisory 12 September: Restrictions and diversions on key routes amid BRICS Summit; check alternate routes

Delhi Police has announced traffic restrictions and diversions on key routes in central Delhi ahead of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit at Bharat Mandapam. The restrictions, set to begin on Saturday, September 12, will run from 8:15 PM to 11 PM, as part of security measures for the summit's high-profile visitors. The area surrounding Bharat Mandapam will be designated as a "Prohibited Area" for regular traffic during these hours.

Essential services, however, will continue to operate without interruption. Travelers are encouraged to utilize public transport, particularly the Delhi Metro, to circumvent potential congestion caused by the restrictions. Real-time updates on traffic conditions can be accessed through Google Maps and Mappls Apps, which will be updated by traffic authorities.

Major roads like Mathura Road and Sardar Patel Marg are particularly affected and should be avoided during peak times. These restrictions are expected to last from September 10 to September 14, subject to the movement of foreign delegations. The Delhi Police has set up multiple diversion points along the perimeter of Delhi's Lutyens' zone to minimize disruption to public mobility.

Commuters are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use public transport wherever possible.
