Murray explained that the organization had been defensive about addressing fans' concerns and that the issue lies with the Clippers' decision to keep the number 3 out of circulation when Chris Paul was not with the team for seven years.

Beal, who previously wore number 3 with the Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns, was not responsible for this decision. Murray emphasized that Beal pushed back on suggestions that his actions disrespected Chris Paul, as did Murray himself. The Clippers' recent salary cap circumvention scandal has made this timing even worse, and they remain the only NBA franchise without an official player jersey retired.
