Classic hits set upbeat tone as Umno assembly enters third day

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — As the 2026 Umno General Assembly entered its third day at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), the upbeat atmosphere was evident through the eclectic mix of classic hits from the 1970s and 1980s. Upon arriving at the Dewan Merdeka, guests and delegates were greeted with songs like Warisan by Datuk Sudirman, Ilham Pujangga by Ismail Haron, and Seiring Sejalan by the late Datuk Sharifah Aini.

The playlist also featured contemporary tracks such as Adikku Pandai Menari by Aman Shah, Selamat Pagi Sayang by Noor Kumalasari, and Ratu Dansa by Carefree. These choices of music may have been a mere coincidence, but they mirrored Umno's current triumph, especially after securing consecutive victories in the recent state elections of Negeri Sembilan and Johor.

The presence of Umno’s Supreme Council members, including newly released Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim, further added to the renewed optimism within the party. Today, the four-day assembly will reach its peak with a motion debate led by the presidential policy speech of party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Additionally, four PAS leaders, including its vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad, secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, and assistant secretary-general Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman, also participated in the assembly.
