China-initiated international alliance to combat telecom, cyber fraud established

Nanjing, China - An international alliance aimed at combating cross-border telecom and cyber fraud was officially launched on Thursday, according to Xinhua News Agency. Representatives from 46 founding nations, 34 observer countries, and four international organisations gathered for the inaugural conference in Lianyungang, eastern China.

The alliance, spearheaded by the Chinese government, seeks to foster collaboration among law enforcement agencies in addressing transnational telecom and cyber fraud and related crimes. China, Vietnam, Laos, Kenya, Cambodia, Pakistan, and Russia were among the founding members who addressed the conference. Interpol also sent a representative to offer congratulations.

Participants welcomed China's initiative to establish the alliance and acknowledged its importance in protecting global public security. In a joint statement, the participants emphasized that telecom and cyber fraud have emerged as a global challenge that necessitates enhanced international cooperation. They agreed that creating a more specialized, professional, efficient, and action-oriented intergovernmental organization, grounded in international conventions, would facilitate coordination efforts to combat these crimes and safeguard the security and legitimate rights of individuals, legal entities, and other organizations.
