Charsadda police claim headway in Maulana Idrees murder case

Charsadda police announced that their investigators had made noteworthy advancements in the murder investigation of Maulana Muhammad Idrees Shaheed, indicating that the residents of Charsadda would soon receive "positive news" about the apprehension of suspects. During a media briefing on Thursday, DPO Rifat Ullah Khan revealed that investigators were examining multiple aspects and leads in the high-profile case, stating that focusing solely on an individual would not be sufficient.

Khan emphasized that the killing of Maulana Idrees was a significant tragedy and reiterated his commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice, having previously promised this to the people of Charsadda upon assuming his position. He affirmed that the police were adhering to all investigation protocols to identify the killers.

Besides tracing the alleged criminals, the investigators were also probing the gang allegedly involved in the crime and other potential targets, though he declined to provide further details at the time, cautioning that disclosing such information prematurely could jeopardize the ongoing investigation. The absence of Imran Khan’s image on a banner displayed at a party meeting held in connection with a Sept 27 event has sparked controversy among Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers in the district.

The banner, displayed at a meeting chaired by PTI district president Arshad Umarzai, featured photographs of several lawmakers and party leaders but omitted a picture of the party’s founder. This exclusion has drawn criticism from the party’s youth wing, ideological workers, and members of the Insaf Labour Wing, who argued that the party’s founder and his political endeavors were being neglected.

Gul Nawaz Khan, the Insaf Labour Wing Charsadda president, emphasized that the issue transcended a mere photograph and highlighted the party’s ideology, loyalty, and identity. He maintained that the party's members would not remain silent, asserting that they would question the omission, demand explanations, and voice their concerns.

The workers also criticized the exclusion of Imran Khan’s photograph, even though the gathering included prominent figures such as provincial ministers, MNAs, MPAs, and other senior party members. MNA Fazal Mohammad Khan, while addressing the assembly, touched upon the Sept 27 program and urged workers to travel to Islamabad while taking precautions to avoid injuries or arrests.

These remarks, coupled with the banner controversy, have ignited debate among PTI workers, particularly on social media platforms, where images of the banner are being widely shared and criticized.
