Mumbai, September 11, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two individuals in a bribery case linked to the redevelopment of two buildings in New Panvel, officials said on Friday. Superintendent Pankaj Kumar, also known as Pankaj Rajput, and CGST Consultant P.K. Swami were booked by the CBI, who registered a case against them on Wednesday based on a complaint from a private realty company.
The realty company, which is undertaking a redevelopment project of 24 flats owned by the CGST & Central Excise, Raigad Commissionerate, alleged that the Superintendent demanded a sum of Rs 1 crore for the necessary approval and handing over of the flats for redevelopment. During the verification of the complaint, the Superintendent allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh in cash, followed by a down-payment of Rs 20 lakh for a purchased flat and Rs 70 lakh from other CGST officers in the future.
The CBI laid a trap for the accused Superintendent on Thursday, who then directed the complainant to pay Rs 10 lakh to a CGST consultant present at the scene. Both accused individuals were arrested on Friday and produced before a court, which has granted them a two-day police custody.
