Kia South Africa has updated its Sonet range, adding a new LS+ trim level and removing the 1.0 T-GDI engine. Positioned between the LS and LX, the LS+ model features 16-inch imitation alloy wheels and six airbags, compared to the LS’s 15-inch steel wheels and two airbags. The flagship SX now includes a Bose sound system, while the EX now comes with a sunroof.
The 1.0 T-GDI engine, previously exclusive to the EX, has been discontinued due to low demand. The remaining engine option is the normally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol, offering outputs of 85kW/144Nm. The Sonet is now exclusively powered by this engine. All models now share the same six-speed manual or CVT transmissions and have a top speed of 175 km/h, reaching 0-100 km/h in 10.5 seconds for the manual and 10.3 seconds for the CVT.
Fuel consumption rates are 6.6 L/100 km for manual transmission and 6.2 L/100 km for the CVT. With the new trim additions and engine change, the Sonet lineup now includes the following models: Sonet 1.5 LS priced at R284,995; Sonet 1.5 LS CVT at R314,995; Sonet 1.5 LS+ at R299,995; Sonet 1.5 LS+ CVT at R329,995; Sonet 1.5 LX CVT at R349,995; Sonet 1.5 EX CVT at R379,995; and Sonet 1.5 SX CVT priced at R439,995.
All models benefit from a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and a three-year/45,000 km service plan.
