Bold technological upgrades drive massive revenue surge for suburban farmers

In the rural landscapes of Phuoc Thanh and Phu Giao communes, agricultural production is undergoing a remarkable transformation. Local farmers, driven by innovative policies, are witnessing substantial revenue surges through the adoption of advanced technologies and deep processing techniques.

Dinh Ngoc Khuong, a poultry farmer from Nuoc Vang Hamlet in Phu Giao Commune, initially began with just 2,000 breeding chickens back in 2008. His strategic investments in high-tech incubators led to the expansion of his flock to an impressive 400,000 birds today. Khuong further diversified his operations by establishing partnerships with farmers in nearby Dong Nai City, Lam Dong Province, and Tay Ninh Province to provide outsourced farming services, including breeding stock, feed, and veterinary care.

This strategic approach yielded an annual revenue of VND20 billion ($771,000) and a net profit of VND2 billion ($77,100). The farm's efficiency allowed Khuong to diversify its income streams by investing in durian cultivation, generating an additional VND600 million ($23,000) per hectare from 3 hectares of crops in 2026.

In a parallel development, Vu Thi Duyen, owner of Yen Duyen bird’s nest facility in Phu Thinh Hamlet, sought to elevate agricultural value through deep processing. After joining the OCOP (One Commune One Product) program, she invested over VND1.4 billion ($54,000) in heavy machinery, sublimation drying systems, and sterilized production lines.

This investment enabled her facility to achieve a 3-star OCOP certification in 2025, allowing her refined products to be sold across local stores and sought after by tourists as premium gifts. The facility's annual revenue is reported at nearly VND3 billion ($116,000), with a significant net profit of over VND1 billion ($38,500).

These dynamic shifts in agricultural production are not isolated incidents, but rather part of a comprehensive strategic shift towards high-tech agriculture within the local developmental roadmap. The resolution from the First Congress of the Phuoc Thanh Commune Party Committee, for the 2025-2030 term, explicitly identified the development of high-tech agriculture as a crucial breakthrough for sustainable economic growth.

Consequently, the locality is focused on supporting cooperatives and collaborative groups in expanding chain-based production.

Notably, HCMC’s OCOP Program is also positioning itself to foster high-tech agricultural production, transitioning from broad-based horizontal expansion toward profound vertical depth. This strategic shift aims to drastically elevate overall quality, added value, and market competitiveness while intertwining the OCOP framework with the structural overhaul of the agricultural sector.

The residents of Phuoc Thanh and Phu Giao communes have also demonstrated a pronounced shift in their production mindset, prioritizing rigorous procedures, quality standards, premium packaging, foolproof traceability, deep processing, brand building, and market expansion. This transition towards a more modern, ecological, multi-functional, and multi-value agricultural sector is set to forge a novel production ecosystem in the region.
