Blir trolig ny samferdselsminister - har ikke førerkort

Statsminister Jonas Gahr Støre plans to reshuffle his cabinet on Friday, according to several media outlets on Thursday evening. One of the officials expected to leave is the current Minister of Transport Jon Ivar Nygård, reported Dagens Næringsliv. The role of the new Minister of Transport is being sought by Oslo politician Kamzy Gunaratnam from the Ap party, according to the newspaper.

As Minister, she would oversee Norway's transport policy, which governs how people get around the country. Over half of Norway's population commutes to work by car, with the country holding 3.7 million driver's licenses, according to the country's road administration. Unlike Gunaratnam, who is not listed as a driver in the system, Mathias Fischer criticized Støre for choosing another Oslo-centric government in a column titled "Initiativ Vest" published on Friday.

Gunaratnam has 14 years of experience from the Oslo City Council, with 6 of those years as head of the council, the column points out. She is not the first person to hold a ministerial position without a driver's license; Odd Einar Dørum (V) was Minister of Transport in 1997 without a license.
