Biometano, la siderurgia bresciana firma forniture per 34 milioni di metri cubi

Biometano, a steel-making town in Brescia, has signed contracts for 34 million cubic meters of supply, a volume equal to 18% of their annual methane needs and comparable to the energy consumption of 35-40 thousand households over a year. This significant step towards decarbonization in the Brescian industry was made possible through a joint project by Confindustria Brescia and Ramet, a consortium of 22 Brescian metalworking companies.

Local agricultural firms have agreed to supply the steel companies with biogas. Six steel mills, including Feralpi Group, Alfa Acciai, Duferco, Industrie Riunite Odolesi, Ori Martin, and Ferriera Valsabbia, as well as Raffmetal, a company that produces continuous aluminum alloys, have signed agreements for the provision of 34 million cubic meters of biometano annually.

This renewable energy source allows for a gradual replacement of fossil methane without requiring major changes to existing processes. The initiative began over a year ago, with Confindustria Brescia and Cib signing a collaboration agreement in March 2025 to promote the use of biometano in the Brescian metalworking industry. The goal was to build a short supply chain, reducing exposure to international gas price fluctuations that have affected energy costs for businesses and households in recent years.
