Azeez’s lawyer denies family funds in TH accounts were forfeited

In a case against former Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, his lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad has vehemently denied claims that the Malaysian government has seized funds totaling RM18 million in Azeez's family accounts. Amer emphasized that these savings have no relationship with the charges Azeez faces for abusing his position and misusing TH funds.

He clarified that the mere existence of savings in Tabung Haji accounts does not imply that the money originated from TH. The lawyer pointed out that Azeez has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include obtaining perks through his position and influencing TH's board to approve an investment at a company with his interest. A screenshot circulating on social media allegedly shows an email from a TH staff member stating that over RM18.6 million in TH accounts held by Azeez's family members have been forfeited.

The email claimed that a sum of RM2 million belonged to Azeez's wife and RM4 million each to her four children, asserting that none of the children had ever worked. Amer emphasized that the accounts and family savings have been previously investigated but never seized by the government. He also denied the allegations that Azeez was charged with misappropriating RM193.5 million from TH funds for personal or family use.

Amer urged all parties to report on the matter based on the facts and the actual contents of the charge sheet, urging them to respect Azeez and his family's right to challenge any false, misleading, or defamatory statements made about the case.
