Apple shares the data behind Apple Watch Series 12’s biggest health claim

Apple announces the results of a new study comparing the heart rate sensing accuracy of their latest watches with other leading wearable devices. The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 boast the most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable, according to the tech giant. The Health Sensing System at the heart of these new models includes updated optical and electrical heart sensors, along with advanced signal processing algorithms.

The study, conducted across five sites in the US and Malaysia, involved 1,460 adults wearing both Apple Watch Series 12 on one wrist and competing devices on the other. A Polar H10 ECG chest strap acted as the reference for comparison. The tests encompassed various activities, from outdoor running and treadmill intervals to strength training and everyday tasks.

In total, Series 12 outperformed every competing device in 139 out of 159 comparisons. These findings, along with detailed results, can be found in Apple's nine-page study. The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are set to pre-order on September 18, with the devices launching one week later. Priced at $399 and $799 respectively, both models will be available for pre-order starting today.
