5 killed, 40 injured as Dutch tour bus crashes in Switzerland's Alpine region

Five individuals lost their lives and 40 others sustained injuries when a bus transporting a Dutch tour group overturned in a remote Alpine area of eastern Switzerland, according to police reports on Thursday. The incident occurred near the village of Susch in the canton of Grisons. Images of the scene depict the vehicle lying on its side alongside the road, with emergency services present.

Forty-five adults were onboard the bus, of which three had critical injuries, seven experienced moderate injuries, and 30 suffered minor injuries, as stated by the police. The identities of the deceased have not been released. It is worth noting that the road where the accident took place had been closed for maintenance work prior to the incident.

Dutch emergency services confirmed that all passengers were Dutch nationals. In a statement, Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima expressed their condolences to those affected by the bus crash, assuring their support for the next of kin and those concerned about their loved ones' well-being.

Dutch tour operator Oad refrained from commenting on the cause of the accident on Friday.
